Cardiovascular Fitness - To improve aerobic fitness, an individual needs to be working to improve their VO2 max, or maximum oxygen uptake. VO2 max is a measure of aerobic fitness. and represents the maximum amount of oxygen per kilogram of bodyweight per minute.

• To improve personal aerobic fitness, exercise must be at 50-55 % of VO2 max for conditioned individuals.

If de-conditioned, 40-47% VO2 max will elicit improvement in cardiovascular fitness.
